We stand behind our work with a 1-year labor warranty on all installations and repairs. Equipment manufacturer warranties vary by brand and product — typically 5–12 years for major components. We'll explain the specific warranty coverage for your equipment at the time of installation.

Absolutely! — that's one of our biggest advantages. Many home improvement projects touch all three trades: adding a heat pump requires electrical service upgrades, gas piping may need to be rerouted for a boiler replacement, or a bathroom remodel needs plumbing and electrical work together. Having one contractor coordinate all of it eliminates scheduling conflicts and finger-pointing.
Furnaces typically last 15–20 years, central AC systems: 15-20 years, and heat pumps: 15–20 years. High efficiency boilers tend to last between 10-15 years with Standard Boilers typically being the most durable at 20–30 years with proper maintenance. These lifespans assume annual professional service. Neglected systems often fail significantly earlier.
Standard 1-inch filters should be changed every 1–3 months. Thicker media filters (4–5 inches) typically last 6–12 months. Households with pets, allergies, or construction nearby should change more frequently. A clogged filter is the single most common cause of HVAC service calls.
A heating tune-up includes burner cleaning, combustion analysis, heat exchanger inspection, flue inspection, filter replacement, and thermostat calibration. A cooling tune-up includes coil cleaning, refrigerant pressure check, capacitor and contactor inspection, drain flush, and electrical connection torquing. Both include a written report of findings.
Yes — cold-climate heat pumps are specifically designed for climates like ours. Modern units maintain full heating capacity at 5°F and continue operating efficiently down to -13°F. We recommend cold-climate rated equipment (Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat) for all Hudson Valley installations.
Banging or clanking usually indicates a loose component — a blower wheel, panel, or refrigerant line. Squealing points to a motor bearing or belt. Hissing can indicate a refrigerant leak. Clicking that doesn't stop often means a relay or contactor is failing. Any unusual noise warrants a service call before it leads to a larger failure.
Check the age first — the first four digits of the serial number on most brands encode the manufacture year and week. If it's over 10 years old and requiring repairs, replacement is almost always the smarter financial decision. Other indicators: rusty water from the hot tap, rumbling sounds from the tank, or visible corrosion at fittings.
A smelly drain is usually caused by buildup of organic matter in the drain line, or a dried-out P-trap that's allowing sewer gas into the home. Run water in infrequently-used drains to refill the trap. If the smell persists, a professional drain cleaning will remove the buildup at the source.
Low water pressure can result from a partially closed shutoff valve, a clogged aerator on the fixture, scale buildup in older galvanized pipes, or a pressure regulator that needs adjustment. If it's only at one fixture, the aerator is the first place to check. Whole-house low pressure often points to the regulator or supply line.
For most households, yes. Tankless water heaters deliver endless hot water on demand, use 20–30% less energy than tank systems. The higher upfront cost is typically recovered in energy savings within 5–8 years. In a household with high hot water demand, the efficiency and convenience gains are substantial.
Keep the home above 55°F even when unoccupied. Open cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls during cold snaps to allow warm air to reach the pipes. Let a thin stream of water run from the farthest fixture on cold nights. Know where your main shutoff is in case a pipe does burst. For vacation properties, consider a freeze alarm and automatic shutoff valve.
Most modern homes need at least a 200A panel. If you're adding a heat pump, EV charger, and heat pump water heater, you may need 400A service or a load management system to stay within a 200A service. We perform a load calculation based on your specific appliances to give you an accurate recommendation.
Frequent tripping usually means the circuit is overloaded (too many devices drawing power), there's a short circuit in a device or wiring, or the breaker itself has weakened with age and is tripping at a lower threshold than its rating. A tripping breaker is a warning — don't keep resetting it without finding the cause.
GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets detect tiny leakage currents that can cause electrocution and shut off power in milliseconds. They're required by code near water — in bathrooms, kitchens, garages, outdoor locations, and crawl spaces. If your older home lacks GFCI protection in these areas, we can retrofit them easily.
In the Hudson Valley, a standard Level 2 EV charger installation (charger unit plus circuit from panel) typically costs $800–$1,500 depending on the distance from the panel, whether conduit is needed, and the charger brand. New York's Drive Clean rebate and utility EV programs through Central Hudson, NYSEG, or National Grid can offset part of the cost — ask us for current details.
As long as fuel is available. Standby generators run on your home's natural gas or propane supply — which isn't stored like gasoline. A natural gas unit can run indefinitely (supply permitting). A propane unit depends on tank size; a 500-gallon propane tank typically supports a 22kW generator for 5–7 days at 50% load.
